Hello,

New the firmawre 1.11 of K10, does not give any more access to the mode debug, I think that it is for that that Pentax changed the firmware, it is now necessary to seek a new access to the debug mode! It must exist another combination of key to reach it. Very interessant to regulate its AF!

Wake up, Pentax. Many users (including me) have found the AF adjust function in the debug menu to be invaluable. If you're going to keep us out of the debug menu, please give us a way of accessing at least this single function from the proper menus.

I, for one, won't be upgrading the firmware to 1.11. I'd rather keep the AF adjust function. However if they get off their butts and fix the metering problem with manual lenses, I'll be forced to. I'll have correct exposures and out of focus pictures. Would Pentax really want that?

If Canon can have this feature for its customeras, so can Pentax.

Canon has only done this on a pro level camera which will not see much use from hobbiests or less experienced users. There is a reason they hid this; more people will mess things up by using the menu than will improve things. I would guess that every manufacturer has similarly hidden features in most every camera; they want these features accessable to techs, but they most certainly do not want the weekend shooter messing about.

The weekend shooter can mess things up even with the existing controls. I've seen plenty of examples of this, even on this forum! ;-)

I think that it can be something buried in the custom menu setup, with a simple default 'reset' setting for those that screw it up.

I actually believe it will become a "must have" option, just like SR or whatever the makers want to call it, is becoming. I notice that both Sigma and Tamron have introduced stabilised "consumer" lenses (Tamron 28-300 and Sigma 18-200) for cameras that don't have built in SR (like Nikon & Canon).

I think that auto-focus "fine tune" will become generally available quite soon as it probably is another way for the makers to "lock" buyers into their own brand lenses.

richardday.....will Pentax be adding this feature in an upcoming firmware? I find it to be a VERY valuble tool! It's simply an amazing difference when properly adjusted for each lens. It would be nice if the settings could be in the memory, but I wouldn't mind carrying around a card with all the settings for each different lens, I won't upgrade to the new firmware or any other new ones unless this feature is included.
cheers, Wayne

How did you access the debug mode before Firmware 1.11? The debug mode was still available after Firmware 1.10, yes?

And finally, is it possible for me to reload Firmware 1.10 and RETURN to that?

Thanks.

I have made strong representations and pointed out the economic and marketing benefits of such a move! ;-)

But they could be completely ignored. :-(

That's good to hear Richard, one can only hope from here on. I certainly hope they listen, what have they got to lose? It would be a good idea to be able to revert to "default" focus settings also, that way anyone who "screws up" the settings can go back to square one. Weather hasn't been coperating around here lately, but the two lenses I've adjusted are spot on, they were "just" ok before, hit and miss. Are there any disadvantages to leaving in debug mode? Thanks for your input Richard and PUSH for that in a new firmware PLEASE!!!
cheers, Wayne

I think it's not a smart move from Pentax to prevent people to roll back to a previous firmware. If one day we upgrade a firmware and realize that it has some important function screwed up (it happens, proof is what they fixed in 1.11 was good in v1.0 but got screwed up in 1.10), we will have to wait for next firmware update, wiothout possibility to roll back in the mean time. Totally unfair in my opinion.

I had a look with a hex editor at v 1.11 and te debug mode is
definitely still there. If the firmware changes the keycode, you
must be able find out what the are...
Of course, it is still there. Otherwise, how do you expect the Pentax Service people to work on your camera? So I am sure all the Pentax service centers would have such info. Anybody working in one? :-)

Excellent! I really hope they're listening, because shooting with this camera since fiddling with the AF adjust has been fantastic. I shoot a lot of manual focus stuff, and being able to rely on the focus confirmation light when shooting action makes life a whole lot easier. Especially at the end of a long day of shooting when you can't trust your eyes to focus anymore!
