i went skiing

last week i went skiing, will be going again for about ten days
tomorrow.
i would appreciate some C&C
Both skiers have their legs too close together. The person in the grey doesn't appear to have a very stable lower leg, has quite a knock-kneed posture and has their a$$ to far back. The guy in the red is A-lining a tiny bit.

The pictures are fine though ;-)

Looks nice. Sadly I don't think I'll be getting any skiing in this season. I'm very jealous.

about the legs being to close, i just go wider when i go faster, but that slope was quite an easy ride, anyway as i'm the guy in red you need to tell me what A-lining means ;)

They were probably taught to ski by Frenchmen. The old "knees bolted together" seems to have gone the way of the dodo, thankfully (due to changes in ski design and the realisation that being stable is better than looking French).

You know, I have a horrible feeling that the OP was after C&C of his photography technique rather than that of his skiing!

Excuses, excuses... ;-)

A-lining = downhill leg and uphill leg aren't quite parallel so that it forms a sort of A shape from the knees down. It looks like:

rather than
............... (hope drawing attempt works)

For modern carving technique you want the weight more spread out over the skis with your legs a little wider apart to stop that happening. It takes a bit of practice to get used to the difference in weight. The A-lining tends to happen when you have a bit much weight on the lower ski and your upper knee gets drawn in. It's difficult to explain in text.

I'm being really picky and I presumed you were the guy in the red. You did ask for C&C ;-)

But I'm also very fussy about carving technique these days now that our skis are SO much better than the old skool ones. Those sort of slopes are perfect for honing your technique. I'm still very jealous.

no problem, but please never compare me to a french again! ;)

about the closed legs i don't see that problem that harsh. i only go wider when going faster or on a steeper slope, but if i don't need to push harder i don't see a reason to go wide

well i've never been to ski school, so all my carving is kinda self teached. old school skiing i learned from my father who was ski teacher earlier. so it's interesting to read about techiques, but just as a bit of self defence i go much wider on steeper slopes ;) on that slope the ski was going much too well by itself ;) thanks again

just out of curiosity, thats a 3 year old shot a friend took, what would you say to that? what i think has changes since then is mainly that my torso is more upright and not in line with the legs anymore, but besides of that it's more of how i ski when pushing it more

Besser ;-)

You're right about the upper body though. Banking over like that is bad.

And you should PUSH IT ALL THE TIME!!!!

Not really. Forwards is good but backwards (aka 'switch') is really impressive ;-)

Good for you. I hope that all this climate change doesn't suddenly cause all the snow to melt. That would be a shame. ;-)
