I own a Canon 75-300 f4-5.6 and I was wondering if I should upgrade to this new version? Will I see any improvement? I bought this lens 5 years ago. Use it alot but it is very slow at focusing and I think it's time for me to upgrade.

Thanks in advance
Melissa

No USM? Is that possible? Mine that I bought many moons ago had. I am now looking at either the new 70-300mm IS USM or the 100-400mm as 300mm is a bit too short.

You can do it because you believe you can do it. So do it!

I used the 70-300 IS USM for 4 days straight on safari. Gave me some of the best pics I took on holidays. AF hunts a bit in low light so one has to be patient but the for zoom lenses that have 300mm reach, it's great! The IQ improvement from the 75-300 (non-USM) at 300mm is definitely noticeable and the IS and USM makes it a delight to use.

On my lens is written Canon Zoom Lens EF 75-300mm 1:4-5.6 III. I guess if I had USM it should be written on the lens...

I bought it in 2002 at 269.99 $ CAN

Back then I wanted a kit under 1000$ (traditionnal camera) so I got the Canon Rebel 2000 with the EF28-90mm F4-5.6 and many other stuff (bag, films, filters...) It was fun but oh boy very expensive when you take 10-15 pictures of the same object with different exposures... the best part was in the dark room :)

Thanks everyone for your answers :) Very nice photos!
