sb800 meltdown

I am a wedding photographer and my SB800 had a meltdown. Nikon refused to repair it until I paid $180 for the $300 flash. The company rep claims the flash is limited to 15 clicks of the shutter and anything beyond that will cause the flash unit to melt down. Apparently, this is CLEARLY STATED in the SB800 operating manual. They told me again and again that I am supposed to turn off the flash for 10 minutes after each 15 photographs taken, not necessarily consecutively. They claimed I overfired. What do I tell the bride and groom.. Please hold for 10 minutes while my flash is cooling down? This is totally INSANE! I used the SB26 for years and several night weddings and NEVER had a problem. After 16 years of devoted Nikon usage, I am very seriously reconsidering my options.

Has anyone else experienced this problem?
