17-35 and 17-55 prices UK/HK

I noticed something curious about these. In the UK the 17-35 is considerably more expensive than the 17-55. It's roughly £1100 to £850 (Internet best price). When I look at the Kong Kong sites, however, I see that the 17-55 is in the £750 ballpark whereas the 17-35 can be had for approx £630.

Can anyone explain why 17-55 is cheaper than 17-35 in the UK but dearer than the 17-35 in HK? I'm sorely tempted by the 17-35 at HK price (to put on my Nikon D80). What is the catch?
