I measured my K100D cutoff in a very similar fashion to yours a few weeks ago and mine was around 4.80v or a shade under. I had already thought of the multiple battery contact resistance problem and have treated them with a preserving switch cleaner fluid.

Typical NiMh cells don't start dropping rapidly until 1.15v, so 4x that would be a better cutoff point, i.e. 4.60v IMHO. I get excellent battery life with Hybrios and Energizers, but my first experience with old but good batteries was a disaster with them not even powering up the camera even though they got hundreds of shots in other cameras.
