Does ANY non-SLR cam have a remote shutter-release jack?

Hi all.

I can't find any non-SLR camera with a remote-release option. Many of the Canon Axxx cameras (the ones with manual modes) would be nice for time lapse, but all are worthless for that purpose because they lack both an interval timer and a shutter-release jack (for which the TC-803N or another timer might be adapted).

SLRs work well, but the mirror flipping up and down is intrusively noisy and subject to unnecessary wear. I wish the manufacturers would simply add interval-timing options to these cameras; it would cost essentially nothing to do so.

Has anyone hacked one of these cameras to add an external release?

Has anyone tried to lock the mirror up on his SLR for many consecutive exposures, using some mechanical hack?

Thanks for any feedback.
