Thanks FR . .

I have a few colleagues in Japan, partly in management circles and some of them are keen digital photograhers. One had his 7D repaired for free: outside warranty. I will chcek this again.

Concerning responsibility for the problem:

KM have caused the problem that is clear, but Sony have now legally accepted responsibility, simply bbecause they bought the business and their customers are not part of the contract and cannot be damaged by the sale of the business; that is the law (at least in Europe).

Sony will have to repair the camera's and they may be able to offload the cost to KM, this depends on the contract, but this is irrelevant for the customers. Your point on a firmware update may have been a different situation, this is not an epidemic design failure of high cost

My earlier point was also a simple legal point in Europe: all electronics have a 2 years warranty (even though all vendors try to avoid this and put 1 year in their paperwork); this is a law, forced upon vendors by the Europan Union in Brussels. But if you fight this on your own you have no chance, nice law, but it does not work.

The same law describes that the prime responsibility rests with the vendor. or legal owner of the business, also for cases where an epidemic desin error is the cause, in case the vendor has changed ownership.

The issue is not whether Sony should repair this for free, in Europe this is compulsory, however, they will not do it until there is a legal action or a lot of negative publication on it. On your own, on my own I have no chance.

Our problem, at least in Holland is that consumer organisations do not just like that attack huge and arrogant companies, and Sony is one such a company. They need endless information and many very many complaints as well.

I have no time to fight Sony for this problem, they are entitled to let me pay the bill, I can always chose to drop this vendor and switch. I feel many of the KM users are in the same boat, invested in lenses and are more or less convicted to Sony.

While the prices for lenses are now high people can jump ship with limited losses, for sure this will change. KM lenses will soon start to drop in price as more and more people are jumping ship and Sony has built up their own lens range.

I am waiting for a semi-prof body from Sony, patience is there, it runs out once my 7D's give up.

Peter
