New Pre PMA (French) rumours

A new EOS 1DS (s for studio):
CDD 6,1 Mpix (27,5 x 18,1 mm) CCD from Kodak (KAF 6302CE)
Not as fast as 1D but price in the same range as the 1D

New lenses:
  • Canon EF 24-104 mm f/2,8 L IS USM ;
  • Canon EF 200-400 mm f/4 DO IS USM ;
  • Canon EF 500 mm f/2,8 DO IS USM.

They are again trying to catch the attention and (eventually) even trying to disclose information which is supposed to be under NDA. They can't stop trying to break NDA's with all dubious methods. This is pathetic! :(

Actually, this is all very carefully planned. I've worked with Marketing folks before and they actually have "leaks" built into their product launch plan. The idea is to create a huge buzz prior to the event. Think what's going to happen at PMA. When its time for Canon to make its big announcement there will be a HUGE crowd or analyst, reports, media, and professionals show up for it. And it is all accomplished without any advertising dollars.

No, they can't break NDAs as they refuse to sign them for editorial reasons. I find it courageous as it often means they won't get preferential access to the manufacturer's sources. This stance allows them to print what are still only "rumors" without breaking NDAs (at least they don't, their sources may...).

Do you prefer your diplomatic news to be approved by your government ;-)-- philippe http://www.phitar.com

I may be wrong, but I suspect them to leak disclosed information (information they got under NDA) by PRETENDING the leaked official information are rumours...

Like French people say: Honni soit qui mal y pense...

If they don’t sign NDA they are not bind to them (ok?) Why should you care? I think they are a good complement to dpreview.

Phil is very clear about his policy and I like its way of working. He sign NDA and get privilege access to pre-launched products. As soon as the product is officialy launched WE get extensive info about it . Chasseur d’Images don’t sign NDA and have free hands to comment rumors or publish info that are still not official. Both provide very good reviews (Phil is probably better for pure camera review but he doesn’t do lenses and that’s where the French are excellent)

Anyway the BIG news is that the EOS 1DS is going to be the PMA hot babe!!

Hmmm, the 1DS sounds very nice -- but will it be as clean at high ISO as the 1D ? It's CCD ? So, not as fast because of the higher pixel count, and maybe they don't read the data from both ends.

If that 24-105/2.8 really has IS, it'll be worth a look (hope it's as sharp as the 28-70). Delta's "pre-announcement" didn't mention IS.

The 200-400 is also interesting, but probably out of the price range for most of us. Especially when I can have a 100 - 280 4 IS by combining the 70-200/2.8 IS with the 1.4 TC.

I would be very surprise that Canon still provide them with confidential
information if they breached NDA in the past

I translated the link using the Language Tools function at
http://www.google.com with some hilarious results!

Apparently, the 1DS is really a "high-speed motorboat!"
Actually it's a gun or maybe a gun mounted on a motorboat. At least that's what Babelfish thinks. Hehehe

I did manage to pick up in all the mangled verbage that the D60 might not be introduced until the "Show of Paris" whatever that is. I wonder why the French might think that?
