Hello,

I am new to digital photography, in particular photo manipulation, and was wondering if there are any good books on PhotoShop that this group recommends?

I was thinking of getting "Adobe Photoshop 6.0 for Photographers" but after reading several of the reviews on Amazon this book seems to be written for the pro photographer (hence the title, I guess). I'm looking to learn some basics about how to lighten up an image, how to manipulate using the Curves menu, etc.

Thanks!

paul

Adobe Photoshop 6.0 for Photographers" is a very good book. I'd also HIGHLY recommend "Real World Photoshop" by Blanter and Fraser, published by Peachpit. I consider it the bible of PS books. --Andrew Rodneywww.digitaldog.net

I second the vote for Real World Photoshop by a WIDE margin. I have FOUR other Photoshop books that are unread or given-up on. The Fraser book tells it like it is in understandable verbage. You'll be correcting other's misconceptions after finishing this book.

BTW the entire chapter on curves (if I remember correctly) is available free as a PDF from their web site.

I agree with both Andrew and Bruce regarding "Real World Photoshop 6". Of all the PS books I have, that is the one that I consider THE book when it comes to Photoshop. Martin Evening's book "Photoshop 6 for photographers" is also very good but for a solid foundation in Photoshop, "Real World Photoshop 6" is the book to get.

Good Luck,
Frank
