I was trying to get this ready to print and I wanted it wider but worried about the canon wheels.. But I noticed there was already some lens distortion and perspective that made the wheels look taller than wide.. So I stretched it until they look a little wider than tall.. I like the overall dimension now.. I think..

How do you do that? Your IR shots are always amazing!

I am just now getting into IR photography (F717, R72 IR filter). How do you get so much color in your IR photos? I can get some, but not nearly as nice as yours. Converted to black and white my shots are nice, but I really like the effect that you get while still having "normal" colors (i.e. - green leaves, blue sky).

Could you please describe your process and filter(s) you use? I would greatly appreciate it.

'One photo out of focus is a mistake, ten photos out of focus are an experimentation, one hundred photos out of focus are a style.'

I use a R72 and a ND8... amp up the yellow channel saturation... then the rest is photoshop.. I use the color mixer and make a very blue layer and very green layer etc.. and erase..

Here's a rough tutorial I did.

If you hadn't have mentioned the wheels, I wouldn't know there was anything different about them. It's a nice scene, the print should look great!

cheers.

Yes that tree survived... I saw it on a post katrina satelite photo...I think the Beauregard house was ok but the museum and park office were flooded...

D
This is really cool. I love your infrared photography. Do you know
if the tree survived Katrina? I know the Malus-Beauredgard House in
the background was damaged extensively.

Derek, if you had not mentioned the streching I do not think anyone would have noticed it. Of course, the perspective made the wheels "out of round" to begin with but in the other direction. As a model builder, this demonstrates the problem of photographing an object to obtain perfect scale.

Back to the real world; it is a very beautiful and well done image. I'm sure a large print really makes it pop!

I too loved the pic. Have you tried the Liquify filter to "fix" the out-of-roundness?

I printed out your tutorial and noted the nice version of the Parker County courthouse...close to where I live.

Thanks Gary..

I know what you mean about models... that is another form of photography altogether...

I thought about it , or just leave the middle alone and cut it into thirds and just add to the outside... I'll probably leave it like it is now..

Thanks Jerry.. I went from wanting it wider to wanting the wheels to look round.. Now I have looked at other pics and noticed I could or should do the same thing...

This photo is unreal, I really like it! There's a moon-like shadow falling on the ground under the tree, it makes it very special.

I have no idea where you find these beautiful scenes, in our regions there are no mystery trees and canons around :-(
Thanks!

Thanks.... That scene is 500 miles from me... I don't find them much either.

Well, since you're asking, nope. The original is truly interesting, the subtle colors being the focus, and the understatement of the IR. This version goes a bit too far IMO.

Cheers

Thanks... I kinda agree... I think I will comprimize and add half as much as I did... original below
