Just spotted your request....I was asked in other forums about this and the easiest explanation is as follows: -

I usually have a set procedure and which is to make adjustment layers for levels and curves and where I adjust each channel to get the effect I want - adjust to make it a little warmer.

Then I make new layers set to clour mode and where I paint in the colours I want.

Then I use Paint with light - but instead of simple dodge and burn I paint in the layers created with colour...

Then I sharpen the image to taste....
