Mine went back due precisely because of the poor packaging.
It seems that there are some people that spend their time looking
for bugs, problems, issues... they buy a product and they start
their personal research... just to find the slightest problem.....
Happily, one can always find something wrong, if one looks hard enough.

Sometimes you get lucky and the faults are glaringly obvious, sometimes it takes a very close scrutiny to discover a defect - but don't be discouraged, look hard enough and long enough and you will be rewarded with an issue to address.

And why not? - there are many worse hobbies than Comlaining.

My own hero was a gentleman who became a living legend amongst staff at the UK headquarters of chocolate manufacturer, Cadbury, who had (and probably still have) a guarantee printed on their confectionary that provided for the replacement of the item, and a refund of P&P if the consumer was 'not entirely satisfied'

One particular consumer decided, for reasons known only to himself, that he was not entirely satisfied with a bar of their Dairy Milk cocolate - and sent back the wrapper under the terms of the guarantee.

Cadbury responded by sending him an apology, and replacement bar of chocolate - the wrapper of which was duly returned with a brief note expressing the customer's continued dissatisfaction with the product, whereupon anoter bar of chocolate was sent to him - followed by another, and another, and another.....

This went on for several years, every week the wrapper from a bar of Dairy Milk would arrive from the dissatisfied consumer, and every week, another one would be posted off to him with a covering letter - staff at Cadbury became quite fond of their (presumably) insane correspondent, and were genuinely saddened when, without warning, the chocolate bars stopped arriving.

Presumably, the sweet-toothed complainant had passed away (perhaps partly because of his fondness for Dairy Milk chocolate). Customer service staff even wrote to him, enquiring after his health, but no reply was ever received, and the mystery remains unsolved to this day.

That's a perfectly true story, btw.

I hope it didn't coincide with the salmonella contamination that Cadbury's supposedly kept quiet for several months.

What a sad, sad way to go through life.

Spillway (suddenly thrilled to be a 'glass half full' person)

Lol! - that would have been poetic justice I suppose. No, this pantomime took place in the 1970's - there may still be some old-timers at Bourrnville who can remember it.

Those were gentler, less politically correct times - when a huge company still hadf the grace and humour to indulge an eccentric.

Today, the poor old s*d would probably have a court injunction slapped on him - or find himself the subject of an anti-social behaviour order.

Wow, 2nd day and still going strong.

Since I began this post, I suppose that I feel a modicum of responsibility to at least keep up with the thread. However, time doesn't allow me to read through everything. I've sampled enough to get a sense of the sentiments. Funny how an innocuous post can sometimes generate such heated emotions.

Anyways, just for the record, I did not try the camera since I wanted it to be brand new if Amazon was going to take it back. I don't see why they should be saddled with a 'tested' or 'open box' camera if they are going to get it back.

For those of you who are really irate at my decision, thanks for the good bit of entertainment. Apologies that some of you were so highly offended that you had to express your strong displeasure. I really did not intend to rile your feelings. Sincerely meant. As mentioned in my 2nd post, no offense taken. In light of all the other stuff going on that really matters, (i.e. terminal illnesses in friends, some people dying in Christian ministries that we support in other nations etc.) this is really a most minor issue.

For those of you who tried to say something kind on my behalf, appreciate that too. Not really needed but appreciated.

If it's OK, I'd just end my post on this thread on this note - and pop in if I have more time to pick up a few more chuckles.

Blessings,
MTMT
