D40 vs K100D

For the $$ the Pentax is hard to beat (awesome feature set). IQ is satisfactory, and as for ease-of-use it's probably number one.

The D40 impresses me so far - small, light and easy to use. The graphics on the LCD (info button) are sort of goofy, but for its target customer it's a pretty good choice.

It's not a D80 - its intended customer isn't a D80-type photographer. For who it's for it'll be a great camera.

It's obvious that Nikon will be extending the AF-S series of lenses to include more choice - but let's be real - the D40 target isn't going to be looking for exotic glass - the kit lens and 55-200 will get them through anything they're looking to do. If they're looking for more they will have lready outgrown the camera and it will be time to move up anyway.

That being said, I'd choose the Pentax, simply for feature set and value.
