How do you carry 2 cameras at once?

Hello, I'm just wondering what folks here do when they need to carry 2 cameras when shooting an event? I plan to use both my 20D with 70-300IS and 300D with 50 f/1.8 to shoot an event. While I need to switch back and forth between the 20D and the 300D, I also want to avoid the hassle. Is there a particular or comfortable way of strapping your camera(s) onto your body during an event? Thanks for looking.

One thought is a LowePro 85 Specialist bag. Set a divider in the middle, and both camears will fit in lens-down, and will accommodate pro sized bodies (6"x6") on a 100-400 or 70-200 lens.

You'll have to ignore the gallery's collection of bad compositions, improper exposures, and amateurish post processing. ;)

I have been shooting/carrying two bodies since getting a 30D. I use Optech Pro-Loop straps on both cameras. I put the camera I anticipate using less (usually the shorter lens (24-70) but sometimes the longer) over my head first so its strap is under the camera I want to have easiest access. The top strap is much more free to move in general.

The cameras are offset so that one hangs to the left and the other to the right. When walking, I generally am supporting or cradling the lens for the 70-200 IS; both to relieve the stress on the lens mount and to make it more comfortable.

A few times I have also worked this way with a Tamrac Velocity 9 backpack in addition to the cameras. If I have to walk a good distance to a location, one camera stays in the backpack until I get there.

The Optech straps are long enough to swing up the needed camera/lens, but lately I've been wishing they were even a bit longer to make it easier to get to the bottom one.

Looks like he has some experience with that!

I put the one I'm using around my neck and the other one over my shoulder.

Everytime I see this shot, I'm amazed he's not wearing snow shoes to prevent sinking into the ground.

I use a carabiner off a d-ring or a belt loop located up high on the right shoulder strap of the pack/bag I'm wearing for the short lens. I adjust the strap and wrap it around the biner so that the body hangs to just above my right hand ready and easily drawn. The long I have over my neck or on a monopod. This way the cams hang and ride independently and dont bang into eachother. There's no need to be cautious about letting go of one and reaching for the other.

I always carry two cameras when shooting events. I have a 20D and a 300D. Usually my 24-70 is on one body, and my 70-200 is on the other. Whichever one I anticipate using most at any given time sits on the 20D.

I use upstraps on both bodies. They really work, and I can have each camera over a shoulder (no need to cross over head) without them slipping off. That way, the straps don't get in the way of each other.

Cheers,

Wolfgang

either you get a holster belt with two mini cases like photojournalists use, or you use a backpack, and hook a minicase between the front straps to let one sit in there while you hold the other.

Yes, I do that too. However, don't you find it difficult to switch
camera, since the one is over your shoulder?
Not at all. If I'm in a hurry, I just pick the other one up and start shooting. If I'm not I switch the one around my neck to the other shoulder and switch the one on my shoulder to around my neck.

Well, I have my 30D and two Nikon film SLRs.. I rarely take all 3 of them anywhere. I do take my 30D and my Canon Powershot A95 with me to most shoots. I put the 30D w/ 17-85 attached in its own place in my bag.. And the A95 goes into a small slot on the left where an extra lens that I have yet to buy should go. Here, take a look:

Wow, that is a great picture! I laughed out loud two times. I carry a 20D and 350 on each shoulder. My camera straps have rubber dots on the bottom which keeps the straps from slipping off my shoulder.
