I guess I've been out of the loop. I checked a few weeks ago and didn't see the IS version of the f/4.0L 70-200 anywhere.

I just got an ad from Vistek and it was listed. I come back here and see posts about it everywhere. Doh! When did it land?

However, Henry's is CAD$1500, and Vistek is even more. I don't see it at The Camera Store, and it's $1416 at Camera Canada. CAD$1416 seems OK, but is any better pricing you've come across (from a respectable store)?

Thanks guys, but I called The Camera Store, and while they don't have it yet in stock, they expect it in soon. (It's not on their website yet.) The price is much lower than all the prices listed so far. ie. Well under $1400. No PST either.

Depends on whether or not you're willing to wait though.

I believe shipping in Canada is 10 bucks, but don't quote me on that.

I will be getting lenses soon and have been contemplating where to buy...

It seems no disadvantage to mail order in the US.

On digital cameras and lenses you do NOT pay duties, so only whatever tax applies in your province will apply

cheers

Cuz on US purchases you pay both GST and PST (if you're in a province that has PST). It's actually cheaper oftentimes to get something from Alberta, cuz there is no PST, and the shipping is cheaper.

Also, it depends on the shipping method. There may be no duty, but there may be brokerage charges. Usually you pay $$$$ in brokerage charges if you ship with UPS Standard or FedEx Ground. However, air shipment is usually brokerage fee-free. With US Postal Service, the handling fee is pretty low, about $8 CAD if I remember correctly.

Bottom line. US purchases MIGHT be cheaper, but Canadian ones are usually easier and might be as cheap.

The tax heaven :) I also mail order often from there ;)

Avoid UPS ground like the PLAGUE !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

UPS air and FedEx air do NOT carry brokerage, also USPS has never charged me...

But yes shipping can add to the cost, especially if you buy sigma lenses and have to return them 6 times ..

$1325 CDN = $1162 US...

B&H has this listed at 1249 US + $41.50 UPS Express
=1,424.52 CDN + 47.32 CDN

put 7% GST and 6% PST on the 1,424.52 CDN and you add 185.19

total it up

1424.00 CDN for lens
185.16 CDN for taxes (13% BC)
47.32 CDN for shipoping

=$1656.48 CDN if you buy at B&H.

BTW $1325 CDN is $1161 US. Not often you see a cdn store selling for less than a US store.

Damn.

Yeah, I was shocked when they told me the price. I was expecting $1379-$1399 or something.

Anyways, they provide pretty good service. I ordered my 24-105L from them.

P.S. Your shipping price for BHPhoto seems a bit high. What shipping is that?

That UPS Express...it is overnight (I literally ordered a lens at 1:00pst time and received it by 4:00pst the next day)...and I'm in Vancouver BC...and the big thing is, UPS Express (and I think Expidiated) covers the brokerage fee's the customer brokers charge.

I received this today, and this lens absotively rox. It's remarkable how well the IS works. I won't post any pix though because all I've shot so far are objects around the house. Mind you, just that is impressive. I can take pix with ambient lighting in my house handheld at 100+ mm.

Not as good as a tripod, but it definitely rivals my monopod.
The got it in stock this week, and mine is on its way to me now.

Dunno how many units they got though. It sounded they had a bit of
a waiting list.
