Wide open sharpness?

I guess I wonder if you'll get optimum sharpness at that aperature for a portrait sitting. But I misread the original post and didn't realize he was shooting outdoors.

I am curious though if you use those aperatures when shooting with a full lighting setup. Most lenses aren't their sharpest wide open. I can understand wanting that DOF though, so this is more a curious question than anything.

I have an entire Church directory to shoot and am open to ideas. This one will be in-doors with a full set of 400w/s strobes.

I don't think having an f/2.8 lens is that big of a deal as in my
limited experience the wide aperture won't be used. I seem to shoot
more in the f/8=f/10 range.

You will often want a wide aperture for portraiture. I shoot at
f/2.8 all the time. f/8-10 is an unusual choice for portraits.
