Don 't Let The Truth Get In The Way Of A Good Story

You often hear of problems with the 7D but rarely hear of as many with the 5D ,Why is that ,Is it because they are not as old as the7D or not as many sold ,or are they better in some ways?

I don't know for sure. My 5D is going on a year old & I have had no problems so far. I have taken about 8000+ plus photos. I did have an aftermark lens go out shortly after I bought the camera - replaced under warrenty.

I had my 5d for 10 mo. when it developed the dark frame problem. The shop i purchased it from returned it for me and i had it back in 9 days from precision camera. they replaced the antishake. and fixed my battery compartment door. I've had no problems since then. I let camera set for 4 days without using to make sure it would work . I did this twice and still no problems. Got my fingers crossed hoping this problem won't raise it's ugly head again.

with more to go wrong and a much higher percentage of the purchasers, especially when first introduced, were pros or those who are more demanding of their cameras...much more usage than the amateur, consumer purchaser who was the target market of the 5D.

I suppose there were more 7Ds sold when they were first introduced,It might have something to do with there being no such thing as a 5D back then.

My 5D is a year and two weeks old with nearly 18 000 shots. No problems at all (konck on wood).
Well, to be honest - there were two:
  • the thumbpad "unstick" itself but I managed to glue it again,
  • a small crack appeared on the AS switch - I really don't know where it came from as it is impossible to hit the camera in this place or do something else that will cause such a crack (besides my 5D is well looked after). Anyway - it still works, so no big deal.

I've had my 5D for almost a year including a very dusty trip to India.

I spilt tea over it and it took a day to recover. I did a little gentle rinsing with water.

The screwdriver that drives the AF failed to spring out and connect with the lenses - probably dust, but a good blasting of compressed air around the mechanism (NOT at the sensor) cleared this and it's been fine since.

Some dust on the sensor but a rocket blower and Greenclean got rid of that.

However, I bought a 3 year warranty so that guarantees no serious problems!

Hello, I am experiencing problems with my 5D. Can anyone tell me the contact number for Sony, and there experience with the service.

Thanks, werbs

Bought a secondhand 5D two months ago in perfect condition and reportedly with about 4500 pics taken. It works fine except that it dies completly if the tripod screw is tigthened, even not very hard. If the battery is removed and reinserted, the camera tries to start repeadedly with clicking sounds. When the screw is lightened a bit, it goes into action

You can fill out a servie request online. I just got my 7D back from Precision, and I am impressed. They received it 11/11 and had it in service the same day. On 11/13 it was repaired and I had a tracking number. This AM UPS dropped it off and it is as good as new. I only shipped it with the body cap and LCD protector and all came back.

Thanks for the info. Was yours under warranty. Mine is out off warranty, but is covered by an extended warranty that I bought through my Visa credit card?

warranty is throught someone else?

Hi, I need to send in my 5D in for out of warranty service with an extended warranty, and I don't have any limitations. Does anyone have experience doing this. Shoud I look locally, or send it to a place like Precision camera?

Thanks, werbs

will not accept your camera for repair. First, you must inquire of those places which ones will look at your camera before you decide which one you will use. In the States, Precision Camera may be the best because of their access to parts, but perhaps they can only use those parts for KM/Sony warranty work, not for Visa - related repairs. I don't have the answer for this, but you should check it out with them.

Seems many or most km users have some issues with the black ist shot problem...though it is hard to tell how many go on to have a failure..or it it is related.

I do get it sometimes..but not often...I guess before my warranty expires I will send it in anyway! lol........I am not sure it is a shutter failure problem..though

I was surprised to hear they backordered a AS module for my 5D with the black frame problem. Sounds like most people get their shutters replaced. Can't image how the AS causes first black frame but I'm not a camera tech, so we'll see when I get mine back, whenever that is!
