200-400 VR does not equal prime lens sharpness?

200-400VR better than 300VR/TC14 @400mm

Hi Mark!

Very nice test. It's consistent with a prior comparision with the non-VR version of the 300:

In real life, it doesn't make much difference, since as you point out, correct focus will result in images that are plenty sharp with either.

At 300mm the 300VR has an edge over the 200-400VR.
At 400mm the 200-400VR has an edge over 300/TC14.

The results with both can be outstanding.
