Always good to have a camera on hand...

My husband is still doing ok today and refusing to see a doctor because he feels fine. Lets hope he keeps feeling fine.

And George, your accident sounds similar. Your poor car was wrapped around a tree! Car metal bends in strange ways when enough pressure is thrown on it. Thanks for your well wishes to my husband, Doran.

LaRee,

I am glad everyone is safe and sound. It is nice to have that little camera with you all the time - but let's hope that it's used mostly for creativity, not crashes. Hope you have a restful and uneventful rest of the week.
Regards,
Daniel

Whoa, that is horrifying, LaRee. With drivers like that, even persons in parked cars are not safe. Your poor husband! At least he was not in the family car. Whew.

So happy to hear that your husband is not seriously injured. I have seen many fatal accidents in ER, and believe me things can go wrong very easily. Moments like this make us realize how precious life is and its a miracle that we are still alive.
Hope, all of you are feeling okay. Take care

We only have airbags because people wouldn't wear seat belts - so why have airbags when they wont activate because people are not using their seat belts?

Bags only deploy if a specific set of criteria are met. If the wrong bag goes off at the wrong time... it could end up killing you.

None of the cars look like they took a drastic frontal impact, so it's not suprising that none of the frontal bags went off. I am suprised that due to the rollover... the Mercedes didn't have any of the curtain bags deploy.

The VW and Merc are both unibody vehicles, so they are designed to crumple, bend and shed parts to dissipate impact and save the passenger. The framed truck is far more rigid, which certainly looks better in photos, doesn't always bode well for the occupant.

I agree that the airbags do more damage than good in MANY cases. That was the case with my accident. I got whiplash so bad from the bag hitting me! I am not sure why the MB airbags did not go off. I mean if the airbag isn't designed to go off to keep you from going through the windshield, what exactly IS it there for?

Yes, that is a mystery to me. That vehicle got hit all ways but loose. It rolled twice!

I wish I would have got the guy in the VW's phone number. I know that he is suffering at the very least a sore neck and I know he won't be expecting it. This was the first accident he's ever been in and his arms and hands were black and blue from the airbag hitting him. Been there done that before myself. My arms and hands were b&b the same way and it wasn't until the second day that I woke up and couldn't move!

I hope your husband is not too sore. That kind of sudden jerk can leave your neck wrenched for days.

Many years ago I was hit head-on by a drunk who came over on my side of the road. It was full headlight to headlight but as I saw him coming and had almost stopped. Well before airbags were invented but myself and my passenger were wearing the then unfashionable seatbelts. Although my car was totalled we were relatively unhurt. I have always questioned the efficiency of airbags ever since they were introduced mainly because many refused to wear seatbelts. I do admit that airbags would give great side protection but in a frontal when strapped into a seat belt you still retain some sort of control - an airbag in your face, well ... and they don't always go off. An inventor here has produced a device to protect rescue workers against undeployed airbags going off when they are cutting accident victims out of cars.

Oh yes - and seatbelt bruisng after an accident is pretty awful as well.

The SUV gives the impression of solidity and certainly can make a mess of a smaller vehicle - but as we say in Australia "I am all right, Jack". If everyone had a SUV and started crashing into each other it would be a different story. Nothing sadder than two SUV's in a wreck as they don't collapse as much and absorb the shock which in turn is left to rattle the occupants about instead.

Because a big solid vehicle looks relatively ok after an accident doesn't mean it is better but the mass and momentum can kill someone in a smaller crumpled vehicle. It is a case of common sense killed by "safe Jack". As long as two Jack's don't meet up then Jack will be all right.

Oops sorry - this is about "cameras" - great presence of mind LaRee and it shows that carrying a camera is always a good idea. Trust that the combination of airbags, seatbelts and crumpling cars has minimised the injuries.
