Hello there everyone! I am debating getting the 30D or the 400D and I recenlty noticed the rebate program available for the 30D. I just have a quick question.

From what I understand, I can double my rebate on the 30D (and the lens) if I buy the 30D kit that comes with the 17-85 mm lens. The rebate form mentions it in the fine print. My question is, however, is that a decent lens? I'm not a professional, but I do love to take pictures, especially of my family. If I get the 400D, I'll just be getting the kit with the 17-55mm lens. Since the 30D kit with that lens isn't eligible for double rebate, I'd lean more towards the kit with the 17-85mm or the 30D body alone and purchase another eligible lens to receive double reabate. I hope this all makes sense. I cannot spend much more than the cost of the 30D kit with 17-85mm lens, so even though I'd like a super-nice lens, I can't afford it at this time.

What are your suggestions? Thanks in advance for your help!

By my calculations, using B&H's pricing of the kit with rebates... vs body only and lens seperately with rebates... it'd be cheaper to by them as individual items... At B&H the items seperately after rebates totals $1378 where the kit after rebate is $1449.95

I was using the wrong numbers for the 30D body price... the price of the body and lens seperately is $1439 identical after rebate(s)... However it might be easier to sell one seperately if bought seperately... That is, I assume the kit is actualy a kit and both lens and body would come in one package... Having seperate packaging for the lens by itself might be usefull someday if you'd deside to sell it, etc...

All In all I think this is a pretty good deal really...
