Blown Highlights...good or bad???

I come from the school of thought that blown highlights are bad. But I'm seeing a trend towards this "look" and I'm just not sure what to think. It could be best described as "saturated and high key".

Let me give you one example of the type of work I'm talking about:

Generally speaking, the composition is great in my opinion but the high key look... I'm just not sure. I have lost business to photographers who offered this look. Customers describe it as a fashion/cosmo type of look, but I just can't get past the all of the blown detail and color. I've brought some of these shots into PS and looked at the histogram and there's detail that's just plain gone! And major posterization of color.

What do you think? Is it a fad? Is it good? Is it bad?
