Cost/benefits of 350D or 20D or 30D with 17-85 IS lens: Help!

Ok....decided already for the XT and a Canon 50mm lens, now with
that, I have around $400 to spend, and I have three alternatives:
Tamron 17-50
Tamron 24-75
Sigma 17-70
Canon 17-85 IS (couple bucks more)

So I know what you are thinking..."that depend on your needs "...Do
I need an IS?...don't think so..I need low light performance,
indeed having fast lenses I may use low ISOs..for I use more
indoors shots than outdoors. However I would like to have some wide
lens just in case..a range of 17-70 or 80 would be good for me.
I need the less PP possible if any, I am a 50's doctor and I am
tired to play in PS...look for the best in-camera process lens.
pretty much all lens will work with just plain in-camera processing except those that are seriously lacking contrast.

probably the IS lens would be best for you if you do mostly indoor.
Thank all of you
(and xcuse my english!)

I am in a similar situation. Trying to decide which camera to get next.

350D replacement or 30D.

I am going on vacatin Oct 1.

Do you guy think that if Canon were to make a 350D replacement that I can get my hands on it by Oct1??

Thanks. So maybe if I am first of the mailing list, I can get my hands on it by Oct 1.

I am also thinking about the 30D. It will depend, of course, on what the 400D (whatever it is called) has in features.

what does being a costco member have to do with what you believe?

costco will give a full refund on most items at any time for any reason. all you have to do is keep the receipt.

that was how it was explained to me by costco.

I have an XT and bought the 50mm because it's so cheap. Was happy with it until I got the Tamron 17-50! I did some comparisons the other night that I posted here recently and the Tamron puts the 50mm to shame as far as i'm concerned.... GET the XT and the Tamron to start with and you will be a happy camper. I got my Tamron at onecall.com for a good price. I have purchased 4 lens from them and have not had a problem with any of them for what's it worth... Gerry

ps: I have a 70-200mm F4 L available when your ready to spend some more money :). I bought a 70-300 DO.......

Do you need a zoom? If not consider the EF 28/f2.8. I have one and it's a nice landscape/standart lens - in my opinion way better than it's rep.

Thomas

P.S. I know I'm an odd-ball: I use a zoom for birds, but a prime for landscapes ;-)

I thought this was more easily acquired. Didn't get much help on this subject earlier; I guess the reason is it was an impossible Q to answer.

I guess it could have 1,804,000 actuations too, but imho it only has 4000. There are zero marks on the camera; I got it for $479 delivered, and I'm off and running with DSLR. If someone has $1000 to spend, like myself (unless I decide I don't want to stay married), my thought was to get a nice 10d, saving 300+ dollars that I could use on at least one nice 2.8 zoom of some sort. The biggest drag for me is inability to use EF-S lenses.

Thanks for the dialogue

mine was 2 year old when I sold it with a brand new shutter just replaced and it did not have a single mark or scratch on it...yet it was carried through just about everything..forest, swamp, desert, you name it.

there is no way to know and 4000 pics for such old camera is highly unlikely...it is very optimistic to think that. it can go quickly with digital..when I was at the game farm and my trip to montana I did nearly 12,000 pics in 10 days :)
