A better Black & White Conversion?

Well I have been working on getting a decent black and white image from my F707 using Photoshop Elements. I think I have a better solution now thanks to the input of Mike Tichon, David Pichevin, and Ulysses.

1) Using Photoshop Elements, open the photo you want to convert to black and white.
2) Make sure your foreground color is black and the background color is white.
3) Click on (Image - Adjustments - Gradient Map)
4) Click on the gradient to open the Gradient Editor:

5) Set the "Smoothness" to 33%

You will now have a black and white with great tonality and a full histogram.

This is the easiest method I have found so far that gives the best results of tonality and a full histogram of data. Anyone have a better way, or refinements to improve the look of the photo?--Shay
