here are some photos from my new alpha using a tamron 28-300 mm...Each photo was sharpened a bit in CS2 and resized to 800 pixels wide and some were cropped... that's it...

28mm, 1/160s, f/7.1, ISO 100

28mm, 1/80s, f/8, ISO 100

160 mm, 1/60s, f/5.6, ISO 400

110mm, 1/200s, f/5.6, ISO 800

28mm, 1/50s, f/3.5, ISO 250

i haven't looked at my manual yet!.. lol....i plan on reading it at work tomorrow....

Realy liked # 2, 4 and 5.

2: nice how the chimenys fade in the cooling tower steam but looks almost as clouds.

4: action and concentration (some moving blur at the background would have made it great, but ok kids and speed on bices isn't that good combo :) ). Looks sharp and colourfull to me.

5: liked to composition and how well the yellow turned out without making the rest look like a nightpic.

5 photos... and you pointed out ONLY the bad.. thanks so much for your comment....

have a GREAT Weekend...

I'm not that great at "action" shots yet.. have only been using a DSLR since September.....

I just wanted to show some decent photos with the a100.....

I know before mine arrived, I was anxious to see any photos from the camera on here...

thanks!

Foliage is really dull at ISO800, with visible noise even downsampled

...

Not bad for the first shots with a new camera! I guess you just have to get better used to its features/controls to get a bit better exposure, the first three shots seem a bit underexposed - maybe spot metering would do it ( backlight? ), the other two are very good.

Always having fun with photography ...

Did you use continuous AF for the kid on the bike? I'm a little torn on whether I'd want better focus on the whole frame in that shot, or just on the kid like you have it (but I understand the tradeoffs you had to make for that shot). Regardless, I'm interested in how the continuous AF performed if thats what you used...

I'm taking my Alpha to the Brickyard 400 next weekend, I've got seats just 12 rows up on the front stretch, so I'm anticipating that will be the ultimate test for the A100 continuous AF and burst mode.

I would be happy with 1, 2, 4, and 5 as first shots, nothing to moan about, but #3 is curious, maybe a focusing problem, depth of focus not positioned, early days yet, but the depth of focus preview may have helped with #3.

Thanks for posting, nothing there to deter my wish for an a100.

Nothing here to make one rush and buy one.It is easy to be critacal but if you post, you welcome critisisim.Pics are very ordinary and could have been taken with any thing.

i do welcome critisisim, but some people only point out the bad stuff...

i didn't post the photos to make people rush out and buy one.. i could personally care less if anyone buys one... i don't work for Sony. I bought one and that is what is important to me. I posted the photos because people on here kept asking for anyone who received the a100 to post pics.

i'm not a pro-photographer and my pictures aren't perfect...

the pics might be ordinary... but they were taken with the a100.. hence why i posted them on the sony dslr forum...

have a great day.... :)

People take great store in photos on the forum. As do 1000s waiting for Phils review,a bad review by Phil will change 100s of minds in to buying some thing else.

Next to Phils reviews, photos influence people greatly thats why they ask for people to list.It was not meant as a critisism as i couldnt do any better my self. But i do think any one listing some of their shots should pay particular attention to the quality of them.As you said your self some of them are a bit iffy.

But beauty is in the eye of the beholder and keep shooting, its all about enjoyment.

You also have a nice day Greetings from the Uk.We have to pay approx $1100 for the lens kit So you are $$$$$$$$ up on us

Vinny and others

I understand your point. OTOH, people have been asking for a a variety of photographs that include but are not limited to: (1) taken with a G series lens, (2) Are of publishing level quality ( a little sarcasm on my part here), (3) have got various lighting conditions which are not always readily availble and (4) taken under some extreme EV conditions.

Now all of these are indeed doable, but most require the camera owner to invest a considerable amount of time in achieving these various objectives. Additionally, it takes the owner some time to become famiilar with the camera. I don't believe most people who supply photos here are in the business of doing full up tests to meet everyone's criteria to determine whether or they should buy this camera or not. That's the role of Phil and others like him.

I think that some of the comments on various photographs on this forum across a broad variety of topics are borderline if not absolutlely rude . If a photograph does not meet an individuals's criteria, is it proper to say "useless" or perhaps just let it pass? Or an appropriate comment perhaps imight be phrased like "if someone has the time, it would be nice to see.....!

Being honest about it, I have a broad range of Minolta lenses and a 7d/Canon20d and I expect my a100 to arrive next week. I probably will experiment quite considerably with it; but in some ways I'm quite turned off by the way some comments are phrased on this forum. Like Sharon, I need to satisfy myself; to do these other things is a courtesy for others and something I do not have to do.

I guess I'm asking for some courtesy here and, I think if we do that, it will encourage people who have the camera to want explore with it and provide results that others are interested in.

Cheers
Tim

It is not even true. Vladimir doesn't know what he's looking at.

(Sorry Vladimir, but your noise recognition skills are not yet fully developed.) ;-)

it is about enjoyment.. and i enjoyed taking the photos and posting them here. I don't claim to be a professional photographer. If I was, I probly wouldn't have much time to be posting on here, I'd be out shooting and selling. I am new to DSLR as I've stated on numerous posts.. I learn everyday. I hope to continue to learn and learn and learn more. One can never have enough knowledge as far as I'm concerned.
