Battery Life on the SHLD-2

Hey guys... How long does the battery grip last on a charge? I've got a compartment in my bag full of BLM-1's that I use between the E-1 and E500. I'm thinking about putting a grip on the E1. So, any idea how many shots you can take with it? I did a quick search of the forums but couldn't turn it up...

Thanks.

I've taken over 700 on a charge and the full-charge indicator was still coming on when I'd turn it on. I've never completely drained one to know, but it's a lot.

for the battery grip on the E-1. Since that has a difference, much larger elongated battery, you will find that it seems to last forever. Even if you let your camera sit in your bag for months, the battery is fully charged and ready to rock. You will soon discover that the battery grip to the E-1 is one of the best optional grips on the market.

Have a great day!

I love my grip and wouldn't go without it but I haven't had quite the experience as the first two posters. It lasts a decent amount of time... most of a full day can be had on one but the little battery seems to last just about as long.

I think that the value of the portrait shutter relase is greater than extended battery life and I have heard but haven't tested that focusing is faster due to the higher output current available on the larger battery.

There is something wrong with your grip battery.

Agree. I always use the battery grip but I have run it out of juice after less than a full day. The standard battery is very short lived though so it is a big improvement.

Good Shooting,

The E-1 Battery grip battery is almost Endless it seems!

I've never depleted it in a single day no matter how many shots and the camera on all day...also I usually shoot RAW. I love the grip as I shoot tethered and leave the camera on the entire day when shooting in studio.

My Olympus dealer said he took the E-1 and battery grip on a 4 day vacation, took over 2,000 JPG SHQ photos, and never charged that battery duing the entire time away as he forgot to bring the charger along.

I don't have the grip yet and havn't bought it not knowing it's compatability with the E-3. Something must be wrong with the two grips batteries in the previous posts. I have taken over 600 JPG images on one BLM-1 charge so I would expect the grip to last much much longer than a single day shoot no matter how much shooting and reviewing.

I have to agree that there may be a problem with 2 of the above poster's batteries. I've gotten 1100-1200 actuations on one charge. It's about the same as the E-10/20 LIPO batteries.

The best I did was 1900 shots a day, without turning it off and without any battery saver mode...
I didn't had the red battery warning yet...

I'm just wondering if the shortlived batteries are from newer cameras that have been rotting somewhere in a warehouse until the price went down?
Don't unused batteries detoriate over time?

--I have done nearly 1000 RAW and still the battery charged up in less than 30 minutes. I also have a 5 second review after every picture.

Some one on the forum quotes 2200 shots on a charge. I believe it.

The SLD-2 also helps the autofocus .

That's true of rechargeable Li-ion cells. Used or not, they have an expected lifetime (shelf-life) of about three (3) years. Sadly, some early production batteries might be about that old right now, although being sold as "new". That's one of the main reasons I've avoided jumping on the recent low prices for the SHLD kit. I wish someone could turn up a serial# correlation with battery year-of-production. That has been discussed in this and other forums, but I don't recall if any "data" for the Oly Li-ion batteries is available.

I got about 900 mixed RAW + SHQ & just SHQ on mine during my Alaska cruise. I changed it when the blinking battery light appeared on my E1, so I don't know how much longer it would go. My regular batteries get about 300 or so.

Phil,

In regards to the batteries possibly being close to expired as you buy a SHLD-1 ...... if you do buy one, I'd call Olympus USA with the serial number to find out when it was made. Remember also, these do come with a one year warranty , and if it doesn't come close to the stated capacity I'd ask for a replacement. Better yet, maybe even call them and ask them about this whole issue before you buy one. Some of the phone reps you speak to are very forthcoming and experienced ..... some are not. It may take more than one call. I've called them about issues in the past .... and if one rep doesn't give me a satisfactory answer ..... I just call again untill I speak to someone who can resolve the issue. Good luck.

With normal autofocus and rarely using the screen... figure 1200-1500 shots per charge. Using an adapted manual focus lens (one or multiple Contax Yashicas) I normally pull around 2500 shots.

Hi,

I only can dream of these numbers...Seems that I've got an old battery. After mabye 700 or 800 hundred shots, I have to put the battery to charge. This is quiet disappointing since I was hoping to be able to shoot for 2 or 3 days (I am a PJ).

greetings, Aldo
