For the pros out there, what is the sweet spot for the Nikkor
28-120 VR?
Thanks in advance.

I used the 24-120mm VR for awhile. Mine was pretty soft wide open, but much better by f/8 at just about any focal length. The sweet spot is probably f/8 to f/11 for most focal lengths... maybe a stop wider at the wide end. Most lenses are usually better a couple of stops down from their widest (especially variable aperture zooms), but I found the 24-120 was particularly soft wide open. By comparison the 18-200mm VR is better wide open, but still at it's best a couple stops down.

In general I tried to keep the 24-120 between f/8 and f/11 shooting in A or M mode. It captured some really wonderful pics that looked great in print as well. I usually applied more sharpening than I would for some of my sharper lenses, but the results were very nice. I carried it along with a Tokina 12-24 as a two-lens travel kit for quite some time.
