>>>>Challenge 122: Information<<<<

Thanks Katherine for hosting a really fun challenge; there were many wonderful and interesting entries in Challenge 121. You did a grand job of hosting and your many comments were greatly appreciated by all!

The results of Challenge 121 can be viewed at the thread below:

Since we've all recently merged under the Sony brand label, you are invited to participate in this latest Challenge, in both the 'eligible' and 'exhibition' categories! Konica-Minolta made great cameras and many of us eagerly anticipate the products that will soon come from the merging of two technologies! So, with respect to this, we look forward to your entries that exemplify what KM cameras are capable of, and hint at what good stuff is ahead for all of us!

(PS - please have a look at the bottom of this message for links to the galleries and detailed entry procedures).

STF CHALLENGE 122 Theme: "Something Old"

The challenge of this theme is to take an effective photograph of something old. By "something" I mean something that was man-made, not something that developed by a natural process. So, for example, an image of a rock or a 150 year old Oak tree would be considered off topic. There are thousands of possibilities... old cameras, old vehicles, old buildings, old tools or household items. Weathered wood, rust, and peeling paint are also good subjects. If you're close to my age, a self portrait might even be appropriate

Challenge 122 begins now, with this post, and will end Monday, July 24th, 2006 at 9 PM CDT. The galleries will be set up shortly, and everyone will then have two full weekends to obtain images. Good luck and above all, have fun!

These guidelines are meant to help things run smoothly for all... and to serve as a handy reference to answer common questions. Thanks for reading thru all this stuff again:

  • Up to three (3) images are allowed in each of the two galleries (Eligible and Exhibition).

  • You can enter photos anonymously if you want to. If you do, please send me an email indicating your real identity. My email address is 1.41sqrt2@swbell.net

  • Collaborating on entries is also welcome. An artist can be involved in up to three collaborative efforts in addition to the usual three single images allowed in each gallery.

  • Those who prefer to have critiques of their photos be more "critical", feel free to mark the image title with an asterisk ( ).

  • There are no restrictions on post processing your photos before submitting them.

  • Please put your name (identity choice) and a unique title on each of your image thumbnails. It really helps to keep voting problem issues to a minimum.

  • Please resize your images to no larger than 800 pixels on the longest side before uploading to pBase (can be larger if a panoramic image).

  • Please keep your questions and concerns posted in this thread for best response. Someone will address them as soon as possible.

  • Challenge time period will run from the time of this post (Thursday, July 13, 2006) until Monday, July 24th, 2006 at 9 PM CDT. Time tables will be posted in the galleries and a separate voting thread will be posted shortly after the end of the Challenge period.

  • Eligible images must be taken with a Sony or Konica Minolta digital camera and within the challenge time period. The winner of this gallery will host the next Challenge. All entries in Eligible should at least include the camera model used & the date indicating when the photo was taken. Attaching the "exif" data (if available) would be ideal. "Exif" data is a big help to a lot of viewers for a variety of reasons. Exhibition images can be obtained with any camera at any time. If you do not want to host the next Challenge, this is the gallery you should post your images to.

Thanks very much for your cooperation.

Everyone is encouraged to join in and have fun. The challenges are always about fun and sharing our common interest in photography. Please feel free to share any of your techniques as well. I'm looking forward to your enthusiasm and participation in challenge 122!
