8 mega-pixels makes a difference

Yes, light is everything and this goes for nature/bird photography as well. With many species I can wait until light is more optimum. The American Kestrel is not a bird you run into every day though, at least not up here in eastern Ontario, Canada.

So, I takem them whenever I can which happens to be whenever I see them. Well, I saw one under not the nest lighting conditions. Bird in shade with parts lit up by dappling sunlight is not what I like to shoot. To make things worse the Kestrel is a small bird of prey and it hates people. It is very skittish and rarely can you get near one.

This American Kestrel took up only a tiny portion of the overall frame of the image. I don't think my old 300D would have been able to pull it off. Thank goodness for the 8MP of the 30D. You get away with smaller crops.

30D + 400 5.6L + Tamron TC 1.4x. There was some CA at the birds extreme tail feather tips which I cleaned up. Other than that the Tc performed well.

I know you mean well but please do not embed my images into the forum. Thanks for respecting that.
