Any bird experts out there?

I've heard a lot of sqwaking and racket in the back yard today and I finally looked outside and saw this little critter standing on a branch.

I got some good shots of him/her because he/she doesn't seem to be able to fly away. I believe that its parents are hanging around and trying to encourage it to fly or come back to the nest or whatever, but it's been on this same branch for about six hours or so as far as I can tell.

I'm guessing that it was being taught how to fly and this is as far as it got.

I wonder what, if anything, I should do to help out. I'm no expert on bird ID, so I can't even say what variety of bird this is.

This is in Central Wyoming if that's of any help.

Oh, and this was taken with my recently recalled (not yet fixed) 70-300 mm f/4-5.6 IS lens using a bit of fill flash in AV mode at 1/40th at f/8 at 105mm using ISO 800 with a 20D.
