FZ40 - worst case scenario approaching fast

The problem with your way of looking at it (which is true by the
way) is that it means all FZ30 owners have bought a dead horse. We
will have no where to go, no improvements, no bug fixes, no feature
improvements nothing. I suspect has most of use know that Panasonic
was going to end the FZ line with the 30 (should they indeed do
this) we wouldn't have bought the 30 to begin with. Most of us are
not in the habbit of buying a product that is at end of life. I
know I wouldn't have no matter how happy I am with the 30 I have.
I really don't understand this line of reasoning. I'm very happy with the 30. Had I known there would not be an fz40, would I have passed on the 30? No way. That's just bizarre. Now if it was a DSLR body, one that I had to buy a bunch of lenses for that would become useless once the body died since there is no upgrade, it would make sense. But this is not the case here.
Like the OP if Panasonic does this not only will it NOT bust sales
of the dSLR (I wouldn't trust Pany for anything after that) it will
end a lot of loyal buyers loyalty. And, while there may not be
anything to match the 30 from other companies we will make the
sacrafice and find something from another company that isn't at end
of life.
Still, this whole end of life issue is pretty bizarre.
Basically it is very poor form and it could cost Pany big
a loss I don't think with their marketshare they can afford. all
for a dSLR which has an even more limited market potential than the
30's or 40's would. Most people don't want to futs around with a
dSLR. I have been there, done that and hated it.
I'm all for the continued development of FZ30 - like cameras and will more than many miss them if they went away. Still, you wouldn't buy the best prosumer on the market if you knew they wouldn't provide yet another upgrade? The converse would be releasing junk, and then releasing an upgrade 6 months later that leaves you holding junk. Maybe I missed the whole point of this post.

Maybe it will take a little while longer being that it will have interchangable lenses and an EVF.

Maybe!

:)

For me it does. I am not in the habit of spending this kind of money on a brand, product line other anything that is at an end. If their is not going to be an further updates to the FZ line it is a dead product line. I have an issue with that and I would not have bought the 30.

For me when I choose a brand and product line to buy in to it is more than just the one item I buy. I look at what came before and what could lie ahead. If I feel that there isn't going to be anything ahead (because for the 30 no other brand even comes close to the features, etc.) I wouldn't have bough it. Its future and possible updates to improve on the few minor things was part of the reason for buy it. In other words I don't buy anything with blinders on. I don't look at just the one product. I look at the entire company, what came before and what could come next to decided if the company and product line is worthy of my money, support and word of mouth advertising.

Well, even though it's blown as a hoax FZ40, feel free to pshop
your own. I know you've got it in you....
This is the 'shop I did a bit over a year ago before pictures of
the FZ30 came out, of what I thought it should look like. Using the
FZ20 as a base, the lens is from the Olympus E10/20 and the remote
is also from Olympus (although I'd prefer RF over IR). The LCD is
from some Nikon, and the left dial, jog wheel and top-mounted
monochome LCD are from the Minolta A1. Overall, I'd say I got
pretty close - or Panasonic got close to what I wanted.

Frankly, I can't think of much I'd change of the external physical
appearance for the FZ40 other than adding a remote and the
side-swing LCD. I wouldn't mind a bigger grip ring for the zoom, a
customizable button or two would be good, and a higher
resolution/faster refresh EVF. Mostly I'd just like cleaner high
ISO and always, ALWAYS, faster focus response. I've been fighting
the urge for a Minolta 5D or 7D, with all that they entail.

Well I went for the 5D and its a joy to use...it need not be a case of dump your pannie cam for it though, they can compliment each other well IMHO, and you dont have to spend a ton on lenses either..

For me anyway the IQ is better, you can slap it into ISO 800 1600 without too much worry...AS is good...and well I got mine cheap..

I do like bridge cams too though..

Back to the original poster, not sure pannie wont have an FZ-40 by all accounts its been a decent seller for them...

I do think they need to up the game with the sensor technology though..do this and they will be no.1 in this area..

I guess I'm one of the few that likes the way the LCD flips on the FZ30. I just pop it down with my finger, and it's ready for from the waist shooting. No need to swivel out. Pop it back up when I'm done.

The remote, though - would love a wireless remote. Have missed it from the start (upgraded from Oly 2100UZ that had a wireless remote that I used often, the one your design was based on).

I really dont get why people want to have an inferior display to OVF? What gives?

OVF offers way way way better clarity, much better for MF, brighter....

EVF is a poor mans choice in an SLR...you dont know what you are missing..

Why cripple a camera with an EVF? If you have not used a good OVF...you dont know what you are missing....

The only advantage EVF has is WB is shown and live histogram etc...thats it....

Those are pretty big advantages in themselves. Plus it would allow for live view. Those make huge advantages. And I am speaking of a very nice EVF.

There are many many people that would love a camera like that. Many.

I love the IR remote on my Olys, but have always wondered why they didn't put a sensor on the back of the camera, or in a rotating turret on top. I don't take many pics of myself, but being able to set a camera up and fire it from a distance works great for wild critter shots.

while tracking a bird in flight i sometimes inadvertently cross the path of the sun...believe me, have done it in both (evf and ovf), evf is much less unpleasant.
