5D power LED flashes even when power off

We've had this discussion before, but I thought I would raise it again since I suspect the power LED flashing when I bag and de-bag my camera etc may be contributing to power use. If it is flashing all the time when I am in motion it could be draining the power pack.

So I asked Canon Canada this:

When I move my camera, for instance into the bag or out of the bag,
the red LED flashes quite often. I wonder if this is affecting battery
life: I get less life than others report.

NOTE: This flashing happens when:

  • the switch is OFF!

  • the Canon "L" lens is secure!

  • the battery is secure!

  • the battery cover is secure!

  • the CF Card cover is secure!

The dealer has witnessed this behaviour. What could it be?

Dear Sir

Thank you for your E-mail inquiry regarding your EOS5D digital camera.

Thank you for your recent purchase of a Canon product. In Canada, you are not required to register your product for warranty purposes. Simply retain your bill of sale. If warranty service is needed you will be required to provide a copy of your bill of sale.

Please set the power indicator to on the back of the camera. If it is set to and the same thing is happening then the camera requires service. In this case, I recommend that your product be forwarded to an Authorized Service Facility for inspection. If it is within the manufacturers warranty limitations, please present a copy of your bill of sale to them. Please find below, the name, address and telephone number of your nearest facility for your reference.

The power switch (not indicator!) is indeed set to OFF

Or shall I just ignoire it and buy a 3rd battery pack? Opinions welcome as always.
