Rebates? Are they worth destroying the box?

This would only be an issue if 30 years from now some lens turned out to be a highly valued collector's item. Then you might see a different selling price. But first the item itself would have to be in mint or near mint condition. And for that to be the case thirty years or so from now, you'd pretty much have to use the item very little, or be so careful that you'd possibly miss out on some photographs.

If the reason you're buying something is the hope that thirty years from now you'll have a collector's item, you'll most likely be very dissappointed, since it's virtually impossible to predict what will be valuable in the future.
