The right choice ....
I went for the 300mm F2.8 IS to save the weight and money. I don't shoot sports, the 300mm combined with the Canon TCs is more versatile for me then the 400mm f2.8 would be. If you shoot outdoor sports in good light you may want to try the Canon EF 400mm F5.6 L Small, half the weight of the 300mm f2.8, quarter the weight of the 400mm F2.8 its very sharp lacks IS but only cost about $1,100.00.
