Lense recommendations for about to be new 30D

I've decided to purchase a 30D and need recommendations on lenses.

I do all of my photography outside and it ranges from landscapes to birds so I need to cover a wide spectrum from wide-angle to 400mm and up.

I'd like to end up, eventually, with 3 really good sharp lenses - I can't afford to buy all 3 now, but I'd like to plan ahead.

I'm thinking of buying one really good all purpose lense to start:
perhaps the EF 24 - 105 MM f/4L IS

and then later add:
the EF 100 - 400 mm f/4.5 - 5.6L IS

and the
EF S 10 - 22 mm

Any others I should consider to replace any of those 3? Or a better combination that you can think of to cover the spectrum?

Also, do I "need" the L series of lenses with the 30D or is that overkill ? i.e. how much difference would there be between an L lense and a non-L lense of the same aperature?

Thanks for your help !!!
