hi all

i am new to this thread, i am very nearly going to buy a tz1 and wanted to know if panasonic are likely to firmware updates for the tz1 as i have been a ricoh user for many years and have found that when ricoh release a new camera they later bring out firmware updates that seem to improve the camera and add new features
i have looked on the pana site but cant find firmware updates at all.

If you buy the TZ1, expect it to be the way it is. Panny is not big on updates and even if they were, I did not see alot wrong with the TZ1. It is what it is.

there probably won't be updates.

pany doesn't 'do' updates.
Bad news if panasonic did not offering the firmware update.

they need to improve the cameras after releasing it and getting the feedback from reviewer and user. they can do as much as they can with the firmware.

with this panasonic will gain more user in their next camera because the user will happier with their past camera.

I hope panasonic preparing the firmware update for the TZ1 and also the FZ50 after they release it.

good luck

Even IF it does, I don't see how it can be just loaded through the supplied cable to the camera's brian permanently.

Back at the begining of the FZ series, Panny produced a firmware upgrade for the FZ-1. It was sold for some time. Then it got into the public domain somehow and is still available on the net. I have downloaded it and installed it into several FZ-1s. A search of the forum or net should turn up details on it. The installation route was via a SD card and the menu button. No cables used. I think they got burned on that one and decided not to put any more on the market.

Just got TZ-1 as it was half the price of the TZ-2/3 and I was unimpressed by the review of the latter. Especially considering that (for twice the price) they removed the zoom during movie mode. The res increase wasn't enough to make up for that or the extra money and it still has the same Venus III rubbish. So, the TZ-1 will do nicely as a snap cam.

Anyway, the TZ-1 just arrived and it's v nice for a non-DSLR. A little over simple (lacking full control), but nice anyway and quite capable despite the lack of a more comprehensive control system. The interface is good for a cam with so few buttons.

Pany's optical stabiliser is remarkably effective. IQ is decent at base ISO, is ok up to ISO 200 and sucks above that thanks to Venus III. Wish there was a RAW mode and I'd rather have venus II and do my own noise removal.

This wasn't supposed to be a review or an attempt to justify my decision so back to the subject in hand...

Would like to update the firmware if there's any to update. I suspect not as I can't find it via google and the only thread here is this one from 2006.

Can anyone link to the latest version and/or state what it is?

Thanks

Pany updates the FW of a model during it's production. If you buy a just produced specimen, then it will have the latest FW, otherwise you have to send it in for Pany service.

Here's how to look up the FW version of your TZ1 (Ithink it works for most Pany cams):

Your post is v useful insomuch as it allows you to tell what FW version you have. However without knowing what the latest version is...

The reason I check these things with new cams is that I have no idea how long the cam's been out of the factory and/or in inventory.

The ExifTool software helps there too BTW. My cam was produced on 24th Oct 2006 (although the day the software is loaded isn't necessarily the day the body was fabricated)...

Anyway, it means the firmware in the cam was current in Oct 2006. However, if there have been any subsequent revisions...

BTW, this tool is great for finding out how long a cam has been sitting in inventory somewhere. Thanks again for that. I've heard of the ExifTool SW before, but never needed to use it. Didn't realise it was more powerfull that providing the basic EXIF I can get in Photoshop...

Back to the question at hand.
Anyone know a link to the latest version of the TZ-1 firmware and/or the number?

Or, have there been any updates at all? Or any since Oct 2006?

Thanks again.

I just ordered a black TZ1 - will take about 10 days to arrive. It's new and I'll tell the data asap. For the latest FW version we may have to ask Pany service (by phone).

The cam ID (manufact. date and unit no) does not change with FW updates.

Since I'm an owner of the TZ1 soon, I'm also interested in FW upgrades and it's improvements.

Btw.
I bought the TZ1 for it's
  • low price
  • sharp images
  • video with zoom and cont. focus
  • size for business trips and biking
Now I will have: FZ30, FX01 and TZ1

enjoy

Absolutely. Panasonic need to improve in several ways, this one in particular, if they want me to buy another panny.

Do you know how to pray?

I received my TZ1 today - produced on 12th Oct 2006. It also has FW vers. 1.0.9.

Loaded the battery for a while, took about 10 shots and one video. Now I'm fully loading the battery.

Menus are very similar to my FX01 and it has spot metering, which I'm missing a lot on my FX01. I'm lucky to get it on Friday :-))

I just did a quick firmware upgrade to my 'old' Casio Exilim EX-S500. This tweak "provides support for SDHC memory cards with capacities of 8GB or greater". The previous version enabled SDHC up to 4GB - twice my LZ1's ability and just now it's become 4 times. The Casio is my old camera. This model has been superceded at least twice and yet Casio are still making an effort to keep it as current as possible. I have made similar firmware upgrades recently for older PC and home theatre gear. So a nice gesture by Casio, though sort of expected at least for a year or two nowadays especially since I spent a lot for it at the time.

My Panasonic LZ1, however, is apparently stuck in 2006 with a 2GB SD card limit and upgrade unlikely. It may be a capable and handy camera, but I'll keep Panasonic's upgrade philosophy in mind next time I chose a camera.

Hi All,

I found your talk very usefull to pull out the firmware version of my DMC-TZ1, which happens to be not the latest one but v 0.1.0.8.

I'm experiencing a problem aparently with the syncronization between the flash and the shutter, which seems to be a known issue though hard for me to solve since I'm not in the US.

I have a light of hope that by upgrading the firmware version the problem could be solved. Any help?

Thanks!!!!

Has anyone found a firmware update yet for the Panasonic TZ1? I recently purchased an older release and have been horrified that it has terrible issues with the flash to shutter sync. Sometimes it takes beautiful flash shots, other times it doesn't. There seems to be no rhyme or reason to its madness. Even Panasonic's tech support was absolutely no help at all.

The firmware version on my camera is v 1.0.6, which I realize is a dinosaur of firmware versions. If anyone has, or knows how I can get a more recent update it would be very much appreciated. This just might solve my sync problem.

Thank you greatly.

The only way to get any firmware upgrade (if one is available) is to send it to Panasonic's repair service.

They will install it.

Remember . . . always keep the box and everything that came in it!

Some of the early TZ1 models developed a defect with the flash system. It had nothing to do with the firmware, as I recall. I personally returned one with this problem. Do a search in this forum and you will find lots of discussion on the issue. I think Panasonic may have extended the warrantee for this issue.

Good luck.
