Hey, everyone. I feel like I just joined an exclusive club of proud D50 & D70S owners! Yesterday I purchased a Nikon D70S at Wolf camera. I chose them because they offer the damage protection program. Basically, you can bring in your camera in pieces and they will replace it. They also offer 18 classes (free) when you purchase any camera.

I am a reborn amature. I own a Canon EOS 10s film camera that is 14 years old. I always thought that I would step up to the Rebel XT should I ever decide to retart my hobby in photography. But, after doing all my research, the Nikon D70S was the machine for me.

Hey, folks, though I plan on reading the entire manual today, and I also plan on attending Wolf's classes, I would appreciate any tips from you veterans!

Thanks,
Elkin

First let me congratulate you in the purchase of your fine new gear...super.The first tip I would offer you've already covered, READ THE MANUAL...more than once. Other than that Elkin I would offer..Get out in the good/great light, shoot often, experiment, learn the dials and menus on your camera inside and out, shoot RAW ( more latitude in PP ), post often here and HAVE FUN..digital is great, you're in for a treat.

I forgot to mention that I also purchased a Nikon 28-200 lens for my new D70S. Nikon is offering a package for $1339 which includes the D70S body, a 18-70mm lens and a 55-200mm lens. However, the idea of changing lens for different shots did not appeal to me so I opted for the 28-200mm. A also saved money over the package mentioned above.

The body was $899 at Wolf. They matched a local retailer's price (Pitman Photo Supply for those of you in Miami, FL) of $840. If you call Pitman they will quote you $898 over the phone but that quote inludes sales tax. Also, the body lists for $899 on Wolf's website but the website price also includes the tax! The 28-200mm lens was $369 at Wolf but they again matched Pitman's price of $329. The damage warranty was $248 for 2 years.

I hope this helped anyone considering a D70S.

Thanks for the tips, John. I did some shots of a few bugs, flowers in Portrait mode) etc. just a little while ago and I impressed myself...or should I say that the camera did all of the work and IT impressed me! I am very happy with the purchase and will continue to educate myself and practice shooting in all the modes, etc.

Is the BetterPhoto.com site yours? Very impresseive. Maybe when I get a little better I will sign up for some web hosting to showcase some of my shots!

Thanks again.

There's nothing better than going out and doing it. Push yourself. Look, see what you don't like then go and try to do it better. I'm 12K+ and still consider myself to kinow &^%-all
