Scratch disk? HELP!!!

You will quickly tell I that I do not know much about computers:

I am running Photoshop CS, and have just fired up Photoshop to be greated with a message that starts:

'You currently have Adobe Photoshop's primary scratch and Windows primary paging file on the same volume.......'

I ignored this and opened up an image. First action was to crop, I then had a message: 'Could not complete your request because the scratch discs are full.'

I have been to preferences and the scrach discs read:

First: c:Second, third and fourth all read 'None'

I swear that I have changed nothing since I last fired up Photoshop, and Photoshop has been running perfectly for many many months.

My hard drive is only half full, and I haven't created any partitions etc (wouldn't know how to).

I will be eternally greatfull if someone can help!!!!
