Ahhh... I finally got my external flash for my 6900 for a very reasonable price. It's a whole new world now.

It's a Starblitz 250BAZ, simple analog hotshoe mount flash, 25 guide#, 4 zoom modes, bounce (90 degrees up plus -5 degrees macro mode) and swivel head. Two preset auto-modes with light sensor (one for depth-of-field and one for long shots) and one manual mode.
Works beautifully with the 6900.

Thanks for all who helped me with my posts.

That's great. The built-in flash is very limited. Make sure to set up a custom white balance for it, as the auto white balance won't deliver the correct colours. You may already be aware of this.

Good powerful flash, guide #92 with 100asa, 3 auto ranges, includes 28mm diffuser, bounce, takes (4)AA's, and a not-top-heavy low profile. Works great.

Well, I got mine with integral 4 zoom head modes + swivel/bounce head for $45 including the batteries...

I am not sure about mine guide# though.. I need to look around the internet. But it's strong.

How does one set up a custom white balance?

To set my custom balance up, I took a large white piece of cloth and placed it over a chair. The large material allows you to step back a bit.Make sure what you are using is actually white and not just cream or something like that. Have the flash in auto mode and select an aperature setting on it such as f4 0r f5.6 on the flash. Have your camera in manual mode and have a shutter speed of 1/125th or higher. Match the aperature in manual mode to your flash. Select the white balance menu on your camera, and pick custom white balance 1 for example. Click OK and then it asks you if you want to change white balance to push the white balance button on the side of the lens. The flash should have fired and set your new white balance. If it says over or under than you will have to redo it and maybe change your distance for the white cloth until you don't get that message. Just use that setting whenever you use your flash and everything should be fine. Below is an example of a shot with my nikon flash in bounce mode with my custom white balance set up this way.

When you use your flash to take a picture, just set the camera's white balance to the custom white balance you now have set up. That's it. Just remember to set it back when you are not using the external flash.
