I am looking for a portable location setup, 2 or 3 heads
mountable on lightstands.
Any idea which is the better choice?
Thanks.

I don't know much about Qflash, but my Lumedyne systems purchased in the 80's are still going strong after HEAVY use. Occasionally they need repair but Lumedyne is very responsive and fair in their charges for such repairs.

The thing I really like about Lumedyne is the component nature of their equipment. I have 2- 200ws power packs, but can buy boosters to get more power if I ever have the need. Different battery sizes are available depending on your power needs as are quick recycling modules. The batteries now come with charger shutoffs, which make recharging much simple than years ago. I can get a full charge on a regular battery with my trickle chargers in about 6 hours.

Again, I can't decide which system might work better for you, but after many years of using Lumedyne, I can highly recommend them.

Sincerely,
Stanton

I have both Lumedyne and Q-flash. I rely heavily on my Lumedyne system.

It seems so much quicker to change power settings. However, the Q-flash

offers more different power settings. But I don't find that I need such fine

tuning. Lumedyne is well built and simple.

Hello Thad

How is it going for you, its been awhile since we did that lens testing, time sure flies EH!

I have owned many flash outfits, I found the Q flash system to be the best and its fully 100% modular. Even to the point of having units that are driven by Norman OR Lumidyne (SP?) power packs if you wish.

I owned four Q flashes including two for the Norman 400B units. Which could also be run from a Lunydyne unit with the proper connecting cord.

Back awhile I knew someone who knew about flash units and he told be to avoid Lumidyne (sp?) as they used many surplus parts in the construction of their units.

Things could have changed that's for sure, but companies usually don't change for the better now do they?

I had several 400B Norman units they were good but I found that the Qflash units wrere so much more with it as far as choice of settings go.

In a multipule light set ups I would opt for the Qflash system any day. The heads are heavier than both Norman and Lumidyne (sp?) but allow incrediable light output control easily once you master the workings.

I got rid of my Lumidyne stuff quite quickly after several breakdowns and eventually the Normans because of battery problems but I simply loved working with the Qflash outfit.

I have been a heavy duty Lumedyne user for many years and I have absolute faith in the product. I really love the simplicity of the kit, the low price of the spare heads and most ofall the results that I get. My experience with Q-flash is limited to the old head that was powered from a Quantum Turbo battey. The power output was a lot less than it stated and I found the controls to be extremely fiddly, bordering on the unusable.

There are a lot of units on the market and the best thing to do is to hire the various units and test them out for yourself. This is also a good test of how easy it would be to hire further units to match your system when that difficult job requires it. Here in the UK Lumedyne rentals are easyand Q-flash are not, so there would be no contest for me.

Neil.
