Canon Powershot G6 battery

Hello, all you lovely people!

Who can tell me please: Is it good, bad, or indifferent to charge the Canon Battery BP-511A for longer than it says? For example a few hours more, or even all night? As for the instructions in the guide, I find them confusing. It would seem that the first time one charges for 90 minutes, BUT they also say: one hour more for a complete charge.(I suppose that it is impossible for a user to know when it is completely charged...) So when the battery is right down I suppose I should charge for two and a half hours - is that right? As they say that the life of the battery is over after 3OO charges it could be important not to charge more than the two and a half hours, so that it lives longer! (if I'm right on that amount of time that is).
Thanks.
