Moral

Ah...but a steak or skillet can't get into your pants and not be removable in the few seconds it took for the woman to get 3rd degrree burns. If you touch that griddle, you'll get a scald for sure...but you can get away from it so it's doesn't spread and continue to burn you as the seconds tick away.

200 degree (fresh brewed temp in mcdonalds) coffee is something you can't get away from. Thus...the persistant request to lower the temps to a level that gives a person time to move the clothing away from the body part getting burned.

Honest question here - how can coffee be at 200 degrees? Boiling point water is 100 degrees - are MacDonalds in Americia selling coffee in gaseous form?

Gee, you guys are way ahead of us here in "old Europe"! ;-)

Wait, you're using Fahrenheit and not selling super-heated coffee gas.

Right?

regardless of the specifics to the case it's a moot point. If you want i'll go dig up some of the endless dirt that your legal system discharges. I'm sure a google search intitled sucessfull american frivilous lawsuits will contain a vast number of results. BTW did you read up on monsanto, or did you miss the point of that argument alltogether? not to be rude, but the picky details of this ladies idiocy side-step the real issue at hand, the shaky laws on which you base your absolute judgement on.

Really? I am sure you are sincere in your beliefs. I certainly acknowledge your right to have them. But do you really think 12 persons a jury are that stupid? That biased? That capable of being manipulated? Would you be? Aren't they your neighbors, family and friends? Why would you be so distrustful of what they consider just? Just wondering.
Warm Regards

'The best part of taking the moral highground ...... is the view'.

It is amazing to see how many 'taken-for-granted' things are copyrighted today. Such as 'Happy Birthday to You' song... I don't know how many zillion times it is sung all over the world every day, but yes, it is copyrighted...

An actor friend of mine transferred me this story: an independent film-maker shoots a documentary with her own funding, costing around $30000. When her work is decided to be distributed, they find out that they have to pay $75000 of copyright for just one cell-phone melody that was recorded during filming: 'Happy Birthday Song'. Not willing to edit/change the scene the scene (A scene about a mom, walking down the street with her son, her cellphone rings), they decided to pay the copyright...

I think this is outrageous. Everybody must have sung this song withing the past year, for at least once. What difference does it make if you not knowingly use it in a movie?.. How about the unpaid advertisements that we not knowingly do, like, brands of our cars written on the front, back, sides, wheelcups, or our Levi's jean tabs, or the tags on our shoes, bags, etc. How come we are not paid for our voluntary(!) advertisement?..

The major problem I see here is greed, and I am in the same point of view with Bryan. I involuntarily paid extra for my laptop since crappy WinXP was included in it. I switched to Linux, so who'll pay me back?..

Koray.

the average american iq is sub 90 or 90, and not only is my respect for the average person's grasp of common sense low, my respect for how manipulated the system has become. The jurors make their decisions based upon a flawed, and manipulated system of laws, it's not just their grasp of reality or of the world around them thats in play here. the united snakes of captivity have contorted a good idea into an un operable mess.

we need the likes of the forefathers you tout so dealy. the one's who founded your country by decent. Unfortunately without 40 million dollars + theres no way anyone can do anything about it, and thats just getting one person into power in a low level position let alone the money it would cost to continue campaigning, because you're sure not going to find any corporate sponsorship for the ideals we should be touting.

Have you heard of attempts to patent genetic material? Who knows what else in our life or existence these people will consider their property and pass law to make it legal? But thats a different debate, not for this forum.

There is a difference between singing a song and using it for commercial purposes - understand?

I involuntarily paid extra for my Chevy since a crappy Chevy engine was included in it. I switched the engine with a Ford engine, so who'll pay me back? This makes about a much sense as the above lame arguement. Did somebody put a gun to your head and make you buy it? Do you think you could have bought a laptop with Linux on it to begin with?

This corporation bashing is getting old. Do you think that Panasonic should have given you a camera for free because you are special or deserve it or think it costs too much?

For those of you who think that digital property rights don't apply to you, post you images saying that anyone can use them for anything they want. Maybe some of them will make someone else some money - too bad for you. But you are not really losing anything, its just a copy, - yah right. You sure talk the talk, now walk the walk.

One thing I have seen is that the topic has shown that there are several types of people. Some are punks who think that since they can hide behind a computer they can take anything they want and the word moral is bent whenever it suits them. Some are mad at the world for whatever ails them and want to blame it on some "big corporation" or government to justify their actions. Some are just plain stupid. Thankfully most are honest and treat other people like they would like to be treated.

I will be glad when this thread runs out because stupid and dishonest people have already had too much to say.

Relax Neil! Just because others have different ideas and opinions than you do does not mean they should be silenced or are stupid and dishonest. Everything is not black and white.

They are not in a bunch. Anyone can have different ideas and opinions even stupid and dishonest people but that does not make them less stupid or dishonest. The idea of a "moral" is to determine right from wrong and black from white - that seems to have been lost here for many in the name of self interest.

it's not far off really, more of an average in developed nations, i'd have to dig up evidence, and that i'll leave to you, because i really don't care whether you believe it or not it is what it is. It's not just the average american who's suspect in this respect, but it is when you mix the average IQ with a horrible system of laws.

the only true morales are to do what one judges right and just. if you're just blindly following a set code you dont' truly understand or can't comprehend then you are a fool. If you break those laws without understanding them the same applies. This discussion is about that, and it's a good talk and a good debate.

shut your face neil, and stf down, because it's people with closed minds like yours who through apathy and ignorance scare good people into watching idly as bad and greedy humans ruin it for the rest of us. ignorance like yours is best faught likewise. go back to fox news for your in depth look on the world and quit bothering people who wish to think for themselves for a refreshing change.
