Amazon.com is having a special on this software - $45 with mail-in manufacturers rebate for $45 free shipping so cost is zero. My question is whether I should get this - is this a good program? How does it compare to ZoomBrowser or BreezeBrowser? You can't beat the price, but I don't want to bother unless I know I'll use it, be able to use it, and it's good. Thanks.--Laurel

I used to use the previous version for slide shows and printing is some formats. It is a good program thou not all features worked in the older version with the G1. I have moved on to using Windows XP photo features and still use zoombroswer. The combination is perfect for me.

Laurel, I'm not sure that I see it as anything to compare to Zoombrowser or Breezebrowser. It is a graphics application--competitive to Paintshop Pro or Photoshop Elements for instance. I have not used Photoimpact for qutie a long time--I have 5 but it is not on my system as I prefer other graphics apps, but I would say that is an excellent price if what you want/need is a graphics application to do post work in your photos. AB and BB are basically upload anc conversion tools. You can however (I'm guessing) upload using Photoimpact and the Canon driver (you can in PSP, Photopaint, PS, etc.) and convert to tiff, etc.--but that would def. not be their major function---IMO.

Still, you can't beat 'free', can you?? :> )

Why don't you download the 30-day trial and find out for yourself?

Good idea. PI 6 is the only image editor I use. As with any program of this type, it has a fairly steep learning curve.

It has no support for Canon RAW format, so you would still need a way of converting (it will import using the TWAIN driver, but that's my least favorite way of converting RAW.)

Well, I went ahead and ordered it, as there was a deadline for doing so. It's funny what you say about a steep learning curve, because imbedded in their advertising is how easy it is to use. I just hope the rebate works and isn't like Viking's. I'll let you know. Thanks everyone for responding.

smile --I think he was probably referring to Photoshop 6. BTW, if you use a card reader, the whole thing of downloading via the app is a moot point. I copy all my RAW files to a folder dated and named within my large photo folder on my HD. Then I use Breezebrowser (well, you would have to invest in BB also, I guess--OR use the TWAIN Canon driver) to convert to tiff. Its easy, painless and relatively fast.

No, I was referring to Ulead's PI 6. Sure, it's easy to use. :)

Actually, the basic stuff IS easy, but there's a lot packed into it and it takes time to master it all. I haven't yet and I've been use PI since version 3.

If you have PI 6, head over to http://www.eastofthesun.com/ . Lots of goodies and a nice message board; with people as helpful as on this board.

Thanks again, all of you. I LOVE this forum. By the way, Diane, I haven't downloaded Breezebrowser yet. I noticed there's a preliminary version and then a full version you pay for. Is the full version the one that all of you have? Everyone seems to rave about it. Do you really recommend that I get that and use it instead of ZoomBrowser? I don't mind paying for it and using up HD space if it's really that good. Also, there seem to be two different softwares that he has. Should I be getting both?

I use the full version--that way you can batch convert all of your RAW files at once if you want--and I'm sure there are other things it offers over the evaluation version. I only have Breezebrowser--I don't have the downloader so can't comment. It is way above Zoombrowser IMO--I just hated ZB for useability.
