Simple DIY panoramic Head

After looking at the prices of Panoramic heads I decided to have a go at making one myself. I got the information for the Nodal points for the Olympus 14-45mm lens from this forum (109mm at 14mm – 119mm at 45mm) made a simple bracket which I could fit to my tripod.

I set up a simple test on my dining table to compare the results with the Head and without.
All shots taken at the 14mm end of the Zoom.

I used a piece of string which I aligned with the centre of the window from the chair and across the table under a pepper pot to the centre of the lens so I could check for parallax error.
Without the Head attatched

With the Panoramic Head attatched

I stitched both sets of images in Autostitch to compare the results
The Panoramic head shot is on the right.

This was an easy thing to make and build and I think anyone with baisic metal work skills and a few simple tools could easily construct one and get the satisfaction of saving a fortune in buying one.

I hope you find this useful
