There's been a lot of debate about the look of the new cp5000.
Well let's have a little poll.

Which one you like:

personaly i think the cp5000 looks kinda cool.

I like the 707's looks best, but I don't mind having a somewhat larger camera. The 5000 would look good, but that little lens just makes me chuckle when I look at it.

IMHO

None of them are awesome
The Nikon 5000 looks great in black - but that lens
the Sony looks a little plasticky
The Canon actually looks cool
I don't like the looks of the 995 at all

As far as the 707's plastic look, this is quoted from Phil's review, and probably explains the look in the photo. I'm sure it'll look more metallic in person.:

'The entire camera body is constructed from a strong magnesium alloy finished in a matte gray (darker than the original F505). The body colour does tend to take on the colour of surrounding lights which is why it may look slightly brown in some of our product shots (thanks to incandescent studio lights). Build quality is excellent, it's finished off to the finest detail and everything feels very solid and robust.'

Also, I do agree that the Canon looks pretty sharp.

I think the Grip on the CP 5000 is better than the G2, but where do you hold it with your left hand? I think it may be getting a bit to small??? With the 990 & 995 you have a very good hand hold for you left hand.

I've got to disagree with most of what's been said here.

The Sony looks goofy. The Canon looks like something out of the 80s. The New Nikon 5000 is okay looking, though I agree that the lens looks tiny on the body.

The 995 isn't Heather Locklear, or anything, but it's the best-looking camera there. It's an aquired taste, I'll admit. But it's definitely attractive in its own way.

Overall I'd say the Nikon 885 in silver looks better than any of these four.

More important than just plain looks, though, is ergonomics. And here I have to give the nod to the 995 again. I've held the G1 and the G2 in my hands, and I thought they were the most uncomfortable things since the Elph. I'd rather hold a brick in my hands.

I haven't gotten my hands on the new Sony yet, but it looks like it would be okay.

I have yet to get my hands on any Nikon that didn't feel totally comfortable. The only other company that even comes close to the comfort factor of Nikon is Fuji.

So I'm guessing from their reputation, and the looks of this thing, that the CP5000 is going to be rather easy on the hands (even if it's not too easy on the eyes).

Unlike most people here today, I'll reserve judgement on what this camera can do until Phil (and everyone else who cares to abide by Nikon's wishes) gets his review of the full-production model out.
Yours sincerely,

Got to agree. The 995 is looking very plasticky and downright ugly.
I like the cp5000 a lot more. If only it wasn't for that sloooow lens:

cp5000: f4.8 at 85 mm
F707: f2.4 at 190 mm

Sorry - I don't like the looks of the 5000. I can't cope with the rounded triangular flash, and the sticking out lens. - Personally I like the 995 - of course, twisted like that is not it's normal shape, and it looks a little odd - but in it's normal stance it's great. - I like the Sony second best.

Hi Guys:

Since I only have a 990 and a 950 ( which is better looking than any of these four) I would be glad to have any one of them to take pictures with ,which I thought was the whole idea.

These are 4 different products, and in case of Nikon in differnt positions within the product lineup, and I'm not sure how good looks make good photographs.

aa, Same question to you "Would you buy a good looking car that didn't run worth crap??"

Well the point is you want both looks and performance.

Would you buy a butt ugly car fx. ?

I like the looks of both the 995 and the 5000. Frankly, I have always been quite enamored by the color "black" on most of Nikon's cameras. I personally feel that the color "black" tends to give the cameras a much more professional look. I feel that the other colors, silver/gold/you name it tend to give the cameras a much more "cheap gimmicky" look. Just my two cents.....:)

Regarding the 5000, I love everything about it except the "triangular" flash. I also feel that a much bigger lens would be more suiting to what could potentially be a fantastic camera!!

From what I can tell, the original post simply asked which camera you prefered the looks of. I think it's a bit unreasonable to think that just because of this that people don't care about the performance as well. There are plenty more threads that cover that.

If you don't care about looks that's great, but I don't see why you'd begrudge people that enjoy giving their opinions on it.

? You don't make sense. I was just answering aa's question.. He asked a question, and I gave an answer.. IMHO there is nothing wrong with that. No begrudgal on my part. I just wouldn't buy a camera just on good looks although I think the CP5000 looks just fine to me.. Something between an Olympus and Cannon in style.. Jerry

The point is we want both a camera that takes great pictures and looks cool too. If either parameter is not up to scale then no sale.

I don't see how you failed to comprehend my message, but if you didn't than it's ok.

Also, you didn't answer aa's question at all. You simply replied with another question, that didn't pertain to the subject of looks, which is what the focus of this thread was about.

No hard feelings though. I also wouldn't buy a camera just on good looks. I'm sure that can be safely stated for every other person in this discussion as well, which was my point.
