Do you keep screen protection on E1

I mount mine so the handle is pointing towards the inside of the camera. That way I don't get an involuntary nose piercing. :-)

Your schnozz may vary. . .

I don't have any protection on my e-10's glass and it has done just fine. When I shoot the E-1 and the e-10 side-by-side, the 10's pics look SO much better on shot review than the E-1's. I should just take the plastic thing off and take my chances....

Yep, I keep it on all tthe time, it's a matter of fact I just bought a Leica Digilux 2 with a 2.5" screen
(to be used next to my E1, don't worry)
and I very much regret that there is no screen protection possibility.

Yes, I generally keep it on. I recently noticed it was missing, and ordered a replacement from Adorama. While I was at it, I ordered two covers, and a Hoodman LCD cover for viewing in the bright sun. I'm not sure I like the magnifier on the LCD since you can see the individual pixels, but the hood itself is nice, assuming I remember to bring it:

I've used the PDA screen protectors on my PDA, and I haven't been to happy with them. At least with the Olympus, I can always remove the cover if needed.

Something I read on the Canon forum might be of interest to this discussion.

Apparently Canon screens out of the box come with a thin plastic protective layer over them. If you ever scratch the screen you are really just scratching this protective layer which is a very quick and cheap repair at Canon Service.

Since they are obviously buying these 3rd party, wouldn't you assume that all LCD screen manufacturers do the same thing to protect themselves from warranty repairs and returns?

I've never used protection on either my E10 or D60. My E10's screen survived a drop from 4 ft. onto a rough concrete floor without a scratch. I use both cameras quite regularly for location shoots that involve a lot of handling and movement. Never had a problem.

Also, my daughter throws around her Gameboy and cell phone with total disregard for the 'delicate 'LCD screens and hers have no scratches either.

I think these things are tougher than we think. Have you ever heard of anyone scratching one? (to the point were a replace might be required)

I think you have this all mixed up - Canon cameras ship with a piece of protective sticky tape on from the factory to stop the screen from scratching in transit, this is even less viewable than a PDA protector and should be Peeled off - how damagable the screen is depends on the camera - if it's a DSLR, or an S30, 50, 60, 70 then the actual LCD is protected by a think perspex panel which can be clearly seen set into the back of the camera ( the E10 is the same as is the E300 and E1 and other olys such as the UZI and C4040) ....... ALL these cameras can have the rear perspex replaced at minimal cost so long as you know how to take a camera apart.

if the Canon is an Ixus/Elph model, any model with a swivelly screen like the G series, A80 or Pro1 then you're touching the ACTUAL LCD which is very easilly scratched and remedy means replacing the expensive LCD unit (made by Sony as it happens) - Other cameras bare their LCDs to the world as well, usually the ones with swivelly screens or ultra compacts - Luckily most Olys have perspex over them .

No, No. I'm not talking about that celophane membrane for shipping, I mean the actual outer surface of the LCD is a removable layer of hard protective plastic that can be simply popped out at Canon Service if need be.

I can't remember who brought this up, but it was someone quite knowledgable on the Canon forum and involved a discussion just like this revolving around hoodman protectors. Deja vu all over again :)
