I'm starting to talk myself into selling the 10D, 28-135, and 420EX
which should net me at least $1000 in today's prices, then dropping
for an R-1.

I think you can get more than $1000 for that rig....not much...maybe $1100 instead.

Here's what I'm wondering?

1) Am I fooling myself by thinking there's little or no
post-processing and workflow with the R-1?

Yes, you are. Same amount as with your 10D...in my opinion. Digital is digital. However, one big advantage that the R1 would offer you is the live histogram preview...if you learn to use that well, then you could see a dramatic drop in post-processing.

2) If most of what I need is handled by the focal length range on
the Zeiss, I wouldn't need any adapters to do macro or wide-angle
landscape, would I?

Not unless you want a close-up adapter or a fisheye....with the stock R1, you should be able to do what you want to do.

3) What other expenses can you forsee switching systems? I already
have 2 512MB CF cards, and I plan to shoot JPG so I should be set
for awhile. Any idea what the barrel diameter is for the filters?

I think it's 67mm.

Would a CPOL and a UV filter be enough? (I might grab an ND or a
warming filter later on.) What about a cable or wireless shutter

Those will be up to you, but you can get them gradually.

One final note: if you "trade up", then you're really changing systems, and it will NOT be cheap to go back. If you do this, you better be sure you are willing to live with it for some time.
