Birth of a Ladybug! (Macro)

After camping on the balcony for hours at an end, I finally witnessed the birth of a Ladybug. Regular followers of my posts will have seen something of it already, but the lifecycle is complete now.

I apologise to the dial-up users out there, but I would like to share the series whole.

On this photo you see the ladybug larvae as they just have emerged from the eggs.

They grow into larger larvae that hunt down preferably aphids.

Once they have eaten enough they transform for 8 days into cocoons like this (you can still see the crumpled skin at the base)

After 8 days, the hatching begins!

Given time, they'll gain colour and spots to transform into the ladybug we all know so well.

Best regards,
Mike
