Well,

I might have to retract that "clever" idea soon unless I can come up with a solution because the gel warps after a while. so I think leaving the dust plate off and use a Cokin Holder might be easier but certainly less convenient.

I had also thought about cutting a B+W 091 like the dust plate lens but haven't the time to try that.

but, to agree with Eric, the SD10 IR conversion is easy, and you can convert it back just as easy. takes less than 1 minute.

And to add to Joe and Seng's information, you can also use gel IR
filters in a backup dust filter holder (taped in) to use ALL your
lenses as IR lenses. Chunsum has done this work and "published"
details over at the Sigma forum---it's quite clever.
