Re: Yet another excercise: Infrared

Hi Jens (and the rest of the readers of course),

I was working in normal jpeg mode as I always do. I can't look through the filter as it's really nearly black. So first I had to focus the lens, then attach the filter on top of it. The first two shots I made were terribly under exposed as the DS can't measure the light correctly. I was dialing in in manual mode about 3 stops over exposure to get a very red original.

In processing I first swapped the red and blue channels and after that stretched the histograms of the individual red, green and blue channels. The resulting image was transformed to B&W.

You are probably right that the first image lacks some contrast and indeed, the trees seem to blend in to the clouds. I took another shot with a slightly shorter exposure and redid that one.
1/2,5s (image from the first post)

1/3,3s (image taken in the same serie but slightly shorter exposure)

Something went wrong on the clouds on this one though as it has very blown highlights. I'm guessing some rays of sun that caught the top, on the other hand they were taken very close together so it's probably a post-processing error from my side. I do like the higher contrast in this one though.

It's great fun to try these kind images, the transformation you see happening before your eyes is just amazing. Thanks for tuning in to all and I'm flattered again by the nice comments.

Best regards,
Mike
